Somiya (Sam) Murtadi MS, LPC
Bio
Hello, my name is Sam. I have been in recovery from addiction since 2011, giving me a unique perspective on the dynamics of therapy, as well as on addiction and recovery. I received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and have a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Troy University. I am also a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Alabama (License Number: 4621) having worked under Terry Bradley MS, LPC and have been a practicing counselor since 2016.
My therapeutic background is in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and I also pull from various other modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Mindfulness, Narrative, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). My other areas of interest include Motivational Interviewing, Person Centered Therapy, and Art and Music therapy, were I can use my own creativity as a model to encourage my clients to express themselves and their feelings in a variety of ways. I work with adults, teens, and children. I specialize in substance abuse and addiction, trauma, teen issues, men's issues, and LGBTQ+.
In my free time I especially enjoy traveling, having been to various countries in Northern America, the Caribbean, and Europe. I also enjoy spending time with my friends, family, and my two dogs and cat.
I'm now accepting Alabama Medicaid for ages 8-21 y/o.
